I’ve always been very active; I’ve competed in various sports since I was five years old.  But, I didn’t always eat healthy.  What I really mean is that I ate horribly…I was the worst.  I was the guy that took pride in the fact that he could eat the most, the fastest and go back for seconds.  If not for my participation in organized sports, I would’ve been huge.  My catalyst for change was the passing of my grandma.

While away at college playing football, I got a call from my head coach telling me to come to his office immediately.  My mom was on the phone.  She told me that my grandma had three mild strokes and was in the hospital.  She died two weeks later.  Like everyone who loses a family member, I tried to understand why.  As I began to analyze my grandma’s life and read about the causes of strokes, I began to realize how unhealthy she was. She never exercised; she ate whatever she wanted and was on high blood pressure medicine from the earliest time I can remember.  I knew then that I had to do something to change the lives of my family members who were following the same pattern.

As I began my study of healthier living and lifestyle choices, I realized that it wasn’t just my family members that were sick and ailing, but most of the people I knew were on medication, overweight and unmotivated.  America as a society is overweight.  About 60 percent of the population is considered obese.  At first, I couldn’t understand why.   People spend billions every year on fad diets, supplements and 20 minute workout videos trying to get rock hard abs or that bikini body.  So why wasn’t it working?  These companies know people want a quick and easy fix.
